Research and studies
Wearing the right footwear is important for infants and toddlers to form a normal walking pattern. Based on kinetic and plantar pressure physio-dynamic tests of toddlers’ gait, Attipas designs encourage a steady and stable walking pattern. From supporting the angle of the leg joint to helping brain development through feeling the sole and toe movements, Attipas corrects toddlers’ walking behavior.
What is plantar pressure assessment?
Plantar pressure is the pressure field that exists between a foot and it’s supporting surface during everyday movement. Assessing this pressure requires taking measurements and indications of both foot and ankle function during gait and other functional activities. This is important because the foot and ankle provide both the necessary support and flexibility for weight bearing and weight shifting while performing these activities.
Using participants aged between 1-3 years old, data was collected based on three different walking tests.
Result : The first test (Plantar Pressure) shows that low and soft shoes are the most appropriate option for babies. The graphs illustrate that gait pressure wearing low and soft shoes is very similar to barefoot.
Result : The second test (Ankle Angle Changes) shows that a low heel and soft shoes only slightly change the ankle angle. The test suggests that soft shoes with a flat heel are recommended for optimal walking by babies.
Result: The third test (Knee Angle Changes) proves that high heels and hard shoes can affect the proper walking of babies by changing the knee angle and forcing the knee to be used abnormally.
The results clearly indicate that walking barefoot is best for feet and correct posture development. Unfortunately, going barefoot all the time isn’t always possible. Attipas shoes were designed to mimic barefoot as closely as possible. We have dedicated time and expertise to craft a shoe that has enough space for toes, allowing a fan-shaped position, that provides stable walking and improves cognitive behavior development.
The soles of our shoes is made of soft and flexible material, to enable smooth movement of feet. Attipas shoes have just the correct thickness and dense of sole, enough to protect tiny feet without interfering with infant’s centre of gravity, encouraging balance and happy, confident walking!
